Antibiotics in honey
Parameters (quantitative): chloramphenicol (CAS 56-75-7) [µg/kg], streptomycin (CAS 57-92-1) [µg/kg], sulfadimidine (CAS 57-68-1) [µg/kg], tetracycline (CAS 60-54-8) [µg/kg] Article Number: 2011002 Description: Antibiotics are used outside of Europe for treating the American foulbrood. This can lead to antibiotic residues in honey. In Europe and Switzerland the use of antibiotics is forbidden and only honey free of antibiotics may be sold. Category: immunological, molecular biological and microbiological testing food and feed honey and beeswax Accreditation: This proficiency test is not included in the scope of the accreditation. |

Falsification beeswax
Parameters (quantitative): paraffin wax [g/100 g], stearic acid [g/100 g] Article Number: 2011018 Description: Recently, there was an enhanced level of falsification of beeswax with paraffin wax and stearin in the international trade. This can influence the development of bees negatively and embedded honey can be contaminated. Therefore, it is important to be able to determine the quality of beeswax. Category: chemical-physical testing food and feed honey and beeswax Accreditation: This proficiency test is not included in the scope of the accreditation. |

Falsification honey
Parameters (qualitative): identification of rice syrup, identification of sugar beet syrup Article Number: 2011014 Description: Recently, there was a dramatic increase of falsification in the international honey trade, i.a. the honey is often mixed with industrial sugar syrup. With this proficiency testing the comparability of detecting sugar syrup in honey can be determined. Category: chemical-physical testing food and feed honey and beeswax Accreditation: This proficiency test is within the scope of the A2LA and the DAkkS accreditation. |

GMOs in honey
Parameters (qualitative): detection of screening elements P-35S, T-NOS and P-FMV Article Number: 2011010 Description: In different countries GMOs are used more and more in agriculture. This leads to GMO pollen in honey. With this proficiency testing the comparability of the determination of GMO pollen in honey can be tested. Category: immunological, molecular biological and microbiological testing food and feed honey and beeswax Accreditation: This proficiency test is not included in the scope of the accreditation. |

Honey
Parameters (quantitative): diastase number acc. to Schade [-], proline [mg/kg], hydroxymethylfurfural (CAS 67-47-0) [mg/kg], electrical conductivity [mS/cm], moisture [g/100 g], glycerin [mg/kg], ethanol (CAS 64-17-5) [mg/kg], pH value [-] Article Number: 2010455 Description: With this proficiency testing the comparability of the chemical-physical testing of different attributes in honey can be assessed. The diastase activity serves to evaluate the grade of heating treatment. The amount of proline provides information about the ripeness and the natural purity. Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) develops during sugar degradation during prolonged storage and through high storage temperatures. The conductivity helps to evaluate the purity of sort honey, the pH-value and the water content are general quality markers, while increased glycerin and ethanol amounts indicate alcoholic fermentation. Hydroxymethylfurfural can only be analyzed using HPLC-based methods. Category: chemical-physical testing food and feed honey and beeswax Accreditation: This proficiency test is within the scope of the A2LA and the DAkkS accreditation. |

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids in honey
Parameters (quantitative): Screening for at least 9 different pyrrolizidine alkaloids, e.g. monocrotaline, heliotrine, retrorsine Article Number: 2011006 Description: Honey is one of the major sources for consuming toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA). PA are present in over 6000 plant species and function as protecting agents against predators. PA are liver-damaging and most likely carcinogen. Therefore, honey with high PA levels should not be sold. Category: chemical-physical testing food and feed honey and beeswax Accreditation: This proficiency test is within the scope of the A2LA and the DAkkS accreditation. |
